Awestruck

This morning was so beautiful. I picked up my ipod and out the door I went. I sat down in my favorite chair on the deck ready to enjoy the morning sun and listen to whatever was to be the next song on my ipod play list. Then something happened and I just stopped and took in the silence...and I simply began to pray and reflected on the things of God. How clear and blue the sky was, how green everything was getting, the flowers like little dots of colorful artwork scattered around the yard, the birds singing and the squirrels playing. God’s unspoken love language written in plan view! I read this statement somewhere once that “awe precedes faith”. This morning, my faith was definitely awakened by the sheer awe of God’s creative handy work. Could you imagine what our faith would look like if we got up every morning in awe of what God had in store for us, if we had an excitement for the things that he wants to do through us? When was the last time you were in awe of how sovereign and majestic our God is?

Indescribable, uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name. You are amazing God. All powerful, untamable, Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim You are amazing God. Chris Tomlin

Romans 12:9-17 (The Message)

Great words to start your day by:

“Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle. Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality. Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they're happy; share tears when they're down. Get along with each other; don't be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don't be the great somebody. Don't hit back; discover beauty in everyone…”

Expand your knowing

"So many believe that it is love that grows, but it is the knowing that grows and love simply expands to contain it. Love is just the skin of knowing."

Hits the Spot

Like the best dessert you’ve ever tasted…"hits the spot" so have many of the moment in my life lately…

I have been having these moments lately, where you know that what just happened is very much a “God thing.” Things that you didn’t plan on didn’t even think about, but here they are, these incredible life affirming, life-changing moments. They seem to come at just the right time, when you need them most and they fill these places deep inside you that you didn’t even know were vacant. They make your heart full and you smile the biggest silly smile and whisper, more to yourself than to anyone else, “uumm that hit the spot!”

Prayer of Thanks

Lord, thank you so much for my small group, for a gracious, God seeking, and passionate group leader that has been nothing but a blessing in so many ways, ways that she does not even know. For giving me just a moment in my week when all the worldly distractions are simply quieted and my heart is revived by a group that simply chooses to says, “Yes” to You and to doing life together. That seeks to truly know my heart and loves me even in my brokenness, right where I am. How great is our God, that he hears the cry of our hearts and answers with more than we deserve!!

“The yearning for deep connection describes a quality of relationship that is profoundly caring, is resonant with meaning, and involves feelings of belonging or of being truly seen and known”. Unknown

Where’s the Zing?

I remember the first time I drank a protein shake. I mixed everything and walked away for what I’m sure was just a second…When I came back and took my first sip, I though I was going to…well, lets just say that it was awful. All the powdered protein stuff, the good stuff, had quickly settled at the bottom and it was bad, really bad. So I took out the mixer and stirred it up again and it was so much better (ok, it wasn’t great, but it was better).

How often do you suppose we let the good stuff, “the flavor and zing” in our lives just “settle at the bottom”? I find in my own life that I sometimes become very complacent with where I am in my life and I often forget to thank God for his many blessings in my life. I stop looking for opportunities to grow and ways to reach out to others. My passions and zest just become less fervent. What I need is a little whirl from the master mixer to get my “zing” flowing again and he always knows when to step in and mix things up.

He adds a shot of chaos, a cup of friendship, and a pound of grace, mixes it all together and out comes a new zest for life, the godly life.
